Skills and experience

A quick overview of my skills and experience… this is by no means exhaustive, so get in touch if you want to know about anything specific that isn’t listed here.

Websites

I have managed website projects from inception, specification and planning through all stages of development to launch and on-going maintenance and optimisation. Websites I have worked on include futureeverything.org, se.manchester.ac.uk, dalton.manchester.ac.uk, urbansplash.co.uk and liverpoolphil.com.

Oh, and this one of course!

Email marketing

I am particularly proud of my work on email marketing with Beauty Bay, FutureEverything, Liverpool Philharmonic and Urban Splash.

From planning, writing, design and HTML development through to database management, post campaign assessment and optimisation; I’ve had a hand in all stages of email marketing

Copy writing

I got my start in digital communications through writing an award winning art review blog. Since then I’ve created written content for all types of online media, from web pages promoting events, properties and products, through to corporate blogs, social media posts and email marketing, as well as offline marketing materials, such as brochures and flyers.

Technical stuff

I like getting hands on with technical solutions… when appropriate!

I’ve experience of implementing HTML, PHP and XML, but know when to hand over to a experienced and qualified developer.

High level customisation and management of Content Management Systems, from bespoke to open source and enterprise, hold no fear for me.

Social Media

I’ve been using social media since before we called it social media.

Professionally I have championed the use of social media through out my career, including Twitter, Facebook and Instagram. At Liverpool Philharmonic I managed a Facebook brand page with engaged fans in the tens of thousands. The Urban Splash Twitter account, which I managed, was identified as an example of best practise in property marketing.

I’m also pretty sure I made Oldham Coliseum the first UK theatre to join and actively use Twitter.

Project management

I’ve developed and implemented project management skills on the go since I started my career back in 2008.

To complement this experience, I’ve used tools and methods like Slack, Trello and KANBAN, and CRM and intranet systems like Salesforce and Microsoft Sharepoint.

I’ve also developed these project management skills through formal training and self-directed learning.

IT and that

As well all the typical office applications – I am the boss of Google Apps and good ol’ Microsoft Office – I’ve lead on digital signature, SaaS intranet and tablet technology projects.

I’ve spent plenty of time with Adobe Creative Suite, including Photoshop and Audition, and have experience of using  these programmes to create visual, video and audio content.

“Any other duties as required…”

I am happy to muck in.

At Urban Splash I ran the bar at properties launches, while at Liverpool Philharmonic I frequently helped out on concert nights, helping audience members with any questions or enquiries. I also ran the online and onsite CD shop, often dealing with customers face to face. At The University of Manchester I was the office First Aider.
